Travel- City hop for Canada Day Weekend!

Hi love!

I hope you had a wonderful Canada Day weekend! I’m still recovering from the fun-filled events, as Alexei and I were city hopping all weekend- we visited 8 cities in 3 days! What did you do to celebrate?

In today’s post, I’m sharing our adventures across multiple cities within Ontario to truly embrace the Canada Day experience!

  1. Oakville: On Saturday, we decided to visit the beautiful city of Oakville’s Bronte Harbour, where the marina is lined with boats, yachts, seagulls and swans! There were several residents strolling around the harbour, with bright, colourful and uniquely painted chairs for relaxation. If you’re looking to grab a quick bite to eat, there are several restaurants on Bronte Street in walking distance of the harbour. Depending on your appetite, restaurant choices include Harbourside Artisan Kitchen, Cove Bar & Restaurant, Plank Restobar and my personal favourite- La Parisienne Crêperie. I’ve also linked a visitors’ guide on what to do in the Oakville area.

2. Burlington: We headed to Walmart Burlington North Supercentre, where I went to take my photos for my Citizenship application (I’m a Permanent Resident of Canada, and am so excited to finally submit my application!)

3. Mississauga: We then decided to head to Square One Shopping Centre to do some light (emphasis on the word ‘light’ :p) shopping. We picked up a few items and ran some errands. I bought this Tall Striped Essential Shirt at the Ann Taylor store and was so pleased with this purchase- stay tuned for the photo when I share it on Instagram (@livinglissy)! Also, Alexei and I discovered this new store called BonLook which is based in Quebec but has subsidiaries throughout Ontario. He bought this super smart looking pair of eyeglasses called Black Tort and not only are the eyeglasses stylish, but they are much more affordable than the competition- will keep you updated on the feedback when he receives the pair of glasses.Afterwards, we headed for dinner at this lovely buffet restaurant called Tandoori Flame. This is North America’s largest Indian Buffet Restaurant and rightfully deemed so, as the restaurant space is so large that it allows for an array of live stations, with over 3 stations of food. There’s a salad bar, two wrap around food station bars, along with the food stations lined by the kitchen, and a dessert bar. The food itself was so delicious, that I had no trouble helping myself to seconds and even thirds! The atmosphere is warm and lively with the music playing in the background and the crowd conversations filling the air. There is a large presence of South Asian population, which is a wonderful cultural experience (I am West Indian from the Caribbean, so have not been exposed to much East Indian culture while growing up). The dishes were so tasty and each dish had a distinct flavor, bringing such an explosion of flavors! What a perfect meal to end the evening!

4. Fort Erie: On Sunday afternoon, Alexei and I, along with his father and grandfather, visited to the Fort Erie Race Track to place our bets! I’ve never been to a racetrack in Canada, and my first experience left me with the desire to visit again! While people go for the betting, I was more interested in the farmer’s market located just outside of the building, with fresh fruits and vegetables, cured meats and handmade and unique crafts!

5. Port Colborne: After the race track, we all headed to his father’s house in the Port Colborne area, to relax on the deck and enjoy the rest of the warm, sunny day! Of course, no patio is complete without pizza and beer/cider, so we stopped at the Colborne Pizza Hut and the local LCBO.

6. Waterdown: Upon leaving his dad’s house, we made an impromptu decision to visit the Waterdown’s Ribfest (we arrived at 10:30pm, and it closed at 11:00pm, but hey, who needs more than 30 minutes to devour mouth-watering ribs!) and what a great idea that was! There were 6 different rib vendors and several other vendors selling Corn On The Cob, Blooming Onions, Funnel Cakes, Lemonade and of course, BEER! The sights, smells and sounds of the amusement rides, BBQ meat and live music, really evoke a feeling of what Canadian summer is all about! In my opinion, this was the perfect event for a Canada Day weekend. We bought cornbread and ribs at the ‘Hawgs Gone Wild BBQ‘ vendor, and oh my goodness- it was hands down the absolute best ribs we’ve had all year (we’ve been to Ribfest three times this year, and summer’s only just begun!). The meat itself was juicy, and well cooked, and the sticky, smoky sauce really complemented the sweet corn bread! We actually visited the Ribfest again on Monday, for the same vendor’s ribs (yes, we really loved it!) when the announcement was made that the ‘Hawgs Gone Wild BBQ‘ vendor had just won the ‘2019 Judges Choice’! I couldn’t help thinking, ‘Wow! Our palette is as refined as the judges own, because we trusted our taste buds and knew that those were the best ribs and now it’s actually official!’ This Ribfest was the perfect meal to complete the Sunday!

7. Hamilton: On Monday morning, Alexei and I woke up revitalized from the weekend and ready to enjoy our Canada Day starting with a hike through Dundas Valley Conservation Area! We really look forward to summer time in Canada for outdoor adventures, especially hiking to Hamilton’s Waterfalls! We hiked for approximately 2 ½ km on the Monarch Trail, which really is a hidden gem as the majority of people ventured to the waterfalls. The hiking trail was so peaceful, that we were truly felt at one with nature and were grateful for the opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of the birds and wildlife.

We continued exploring the city by visiting the Bayfront Park, for the Canada Day Celebration held by both RBC and the City of Hamilton, filled with food trucks, family fun and live performances. Alexei and I enjoyed the sunny afternoon with our picnic blanket and relaxed by the lake. As the fireworks display took place later on in the nighttime, we decided to pack up and head home to watch the fireworks from the comfort of our balcony.

8. Toronto: As we approached the ending of our day’s festivities, Alexei and I returned to the city of Toronto to enjoy the Ashbridges Bay Fireworks Display, which was so marvelous! Watching the brilliantly colored light bursting in the sky, brought upon a bittersweet feeling of the ending of the long weekend. While a part of me was upset that the long weekend was over, I reflected on the weekend’s events, and a wave of nostalgic bliss overcame me as the fireworks marked the observance and symbolism of Canada’s Independence.

I really hope you enjoyed this post, and that you can get some ideas of what to do during the Canada Day weekend or even during the summer! Canada’s summer is so exciting and adventure-filled with many free events, hiking activities, camping, movie nights at the drive in theatre and of course, food festivals!

If you like this post, do comment below and share your experiences- I’m always looking for adventures within and around the city!

Enjoy your 4 day work-week and we’ll chat very soon friend! xoxo

Fashion- The Square Neck Dress in Glen Check

Hello blog friends! Happy Friday to you all!

Today, I’m sharing with you this little number that I wore to work for casual Friday. We all know that dressing smartly at work is so much fun, but having the option to be casual is even better, because you can dress down while keeping it work appropriate!

Although it’s casual Friday in the office, I still like to keep it classy, and today’s post features this beautiful casual yet trendy Square Neck Dress from one of my favorite designers- Ann Taylor. I’m wearing a size 0 Petite, and it does fit true to size. I absolutely love the fact that Ann Taylor’s clothes consider those who may be smaller in stature, so the Petite option is favorable to many people who struggle for the best fit of clothing. What’s your opinion on Ann Taylor designs? I’ve always been under the impression that it’s for a more mature audience, but then I found myself shopping in the store twice a week!

I paired this piece with my most worn pair of black flats from Call It Spring. While this particular item is no longer in stock, I’ve linked a similar pair here. The best news about this store is that they’re now vegan! 🙂

The best feature about this dress is that you can play with it in so many different ways- it can be dressed up with block heels or dressed down with a pair of ballerina flats or sandals.

I wish you all the best weekend, and for all you Canadians, I wish you a very special Canada Day long weekend!

Talk soon! xoxo

Hello friend!

I hope your week is going well! I’m definitely ready for a much needed long weekend- July 1 is a public holiday here as it’s Canada Day! I can’t wait for the holiday festivities! But first, I want to share with you today’s outfit which I call ‘Pretty in Pink’.

I was roaming the city and with today being Wednesday, I decided to adopt the ‘Mean Girls’ rule of wearing pink clothing! This ultra-chic pair of high waist pink and black shorts is perfect for city adventures, as its light and fits the waist perfectly. The shorts are true to size and don’t have much stretch so I suggest sizing up- I’m wearing a small in the pair of shorts. The complete outfit, both shorts and top is from Charlotte Russe, but as the style is no longer in stock, I’ve linked a few similar items below.

SHEINPolka Dot Belted Paperbag Shorts – CA$9.00 (18% off!)

SHEINHigh Waist Button Side Dot Shorts – CA$18.00

LulusSpa-t Treatment Black Polka Dot Shorts – US$32.00 (waitlist)

The sandals which I’m wearing are my most comfortable and stylish pair of Treanna Black Flats (I also own a pair in White) which are only CA$49.99 and are currently on a special deal where you can buy one, get one 70% off!

Finally, I completed the look with my trendy Nude Lace Tote from Aldo Shoes, but sadly, it is no longer in stock, so I’ve linked a similar item here:

I’ve also paired the complete outfit with this light and versatile medium wash denim jacket from Dynamite clothing, which is a summer staple for many of us!

As this outfit is inspiration from Mean Girls movie, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite quotes from the hit movie ‘That’s SO FETCH!’- what’s yours? Comment below!

I hope you try this outfit look and let me know what you think! I love pink for spring and summer season as the color is so bright and fun! Wishing you a wonderful day and rest of week- xoxo

Beauty- Pride Inspired Rainbow Eye Makeup 🌈

Hi ladies!

Today, I’m sharing with you one of my favourite looks which I created for the Pride parade! I had so much fun with this project and received tons of compliments on it! It’s so easy to create, I simply looked at some photos on Pinterest (of course- who else agrees that Pinterest is life!?) and tailored it to my own liking to create this unique design.

Two of the palettes which I used for this rainbow eye makeup include the Urban Decay Vice Palettes 1 & 4 (shown below), and unfortunately both are no longer in production, so I’m linking similar items which can be used to re-create this look!

Similar eyeshadow palettes:

To use as base layer
For color vibrance with a wide selection of colours, you can use the Sephora PRO Editorial Palette- Limited Edition. I love the pearlescent finish which adds a luxurious touch (you can use this palette alone if you prefer, as the colours contain high pigment properties).

Another base layer which I also used for this look is the Mac Fashion Fanatic Palette which was perfect for capturing the vibrant hue that I needed for the pink/red colour. This palette is a limited edition so be be sure to grab it before it’s out of stock!

To use as a top layer
This Flamingo PRO Eyeshadow Palette offers a wide variety of shimmery tropical shades with all the colours of the rainbow to achieve that burst of colour!

As some of these palettes may be a bit pricey (especially if you won’t be using these colours on an everyday basis), I’ve also linked a more affordable palette available on Amazon called Tropical Eyeshadow Palette Docolor with 30 vibrant matte and glitter eyeshadow colours and it’s only US$17.99! I have not personally used this brand, and I am more familiar with the Sephora brand in terms of product quality, however, this particular item has received so much positive feedback on Amazon reviews that I decided to share with you if budget constraints are in mind 🙂

I hope to film a video one day and share the step by step instructions on how to create this rainbow look, but until then, I hope you can use the photo as a guide on the color placement and overall look! This makeup is so versatile and can be used for Pride Parade, Mardi Gras, Carnival and even Halloween!

I hope you have so much fun with your re-creation and please share your photos as I would love to see the variations of this look! 🙂

Bye for now ladies! xoxo

Fashion- Summer is here in this Tropical Chic wear!

Hello beautiful! Hope you’re having the best weekend! Today, I’m sharing a quick post of a dress which I wore to our friends’ wedding. The theme for this beach wedding was ‘Tropical Chic’ and I couldn’t think of a better dress to wear for the event!

The Canary Yellow Colored Gown is my absolute favorite dress for this summer season! I strutted around the venue with such confidence as this bold and fun color turned the heads of many guests. I’m wearing a size Small, and it fit like a glove, yet the chiffon material allowed my to glide elegantly and comfortably. In my opinion, the three best features of this dress include the vibrant color, the halter neck strap design and of course, the leg slit which added a special element to an already gorgeous dress! I can’t wait to wear this gown again because I received so many compliments at the wedding- I even won an unofficial contest (unbeknownst to me) as the BEST DRESSED GIRL! This gown is a show stopper and head turner, so if you’re thinking of impressing the party goers with a dress which has that ‘WOW’ factor- this is it! Shop now while it’s still in stock and currently on sale for 47% off- trust me, you won’t regret it!

For the heels, I kept it simple with this Tayvia Nude Block Heel- and it was so unbelievably comfortable, that I danced all night wearing them and had no blisters the next morning! Super happy with this purchase, and it’s so adorable at only CA$49.99.

When pairing the accessories, I decided to wear this Carrie Clutch Bag to match the nude heels, and it complemented the overall outfit quite nicely. This clutch fit all my essentials such as my cellphone, lipstick to touch up (of course) and keys, so again, another purchase with which I was satisfied!

Last but certainly not least, I completed the overall look with a color contrast to the yellow dress- this pair of Chic Beaded Turquoise Earrings! The earrings are very lightweight and I think that the turquoise color adds a fun accent and pop of color to this vibrant yellow gown creating the perfect combination for a tropical chic wedding- after all, I was awarded the title of ‘Best Dressed’ wasn’t I? 😉

I hope you enjoy this post and if you do buy any of these items, do let me know what you think (I don’t receive a commission from these products, I would really just love your feedback!) If you do buy any of the products mentioned above, do share your post and tag me on Instagram @livinglissy 🙂

Enjoy your weekend friend, finally summertime is here!! xoxo

Life- 🐘 Lion King musical! 🐒 ♬

Hi loves!

Last night I went to the highly anticipated Lion King Musical and it was absolutely FANTASTIC! I am completely amazed and beyond impressed with the costumes, talented performers, special effects and overall production of the show! If you have the opportunity to see this play, I strongly recommend it- and while the cost may seem pricey (I paid CAD $200 per ticket), the first 5 minutes alone were well worth it! The organizers create an immersive experience as performers made their way through the crowd which really increased the audiences’ engagement. I truly admire the performers’ talent, skills and abilities, with the singing, dancing and acting all at the highest quality of theatre. I am already searching for dates for my second show! 🙂

My outfit choice was based on the nude tones of African inspiration. While I did consider wearing my leopard romper, I tend to get cold so easily that I thought to layer up with this beautiful nude mid sleeve top which is usually my staple piece during the fall season, but I usually wear it if going to the movies or theatre (anywhere with AC really!). The top which I’m wearing is no longer in stock, so I’m linking two similar items: Jaymes Top-Nude and this Blush Rib V-neck t-shirt.

I decided to pair this top with a pair of ripped black jeans to give for a casual look and feel, so I wore my favorite pair from Bluenotes (have you shopped at this store?) called the High Rise Emma Jegging. In the past few years have I become an avid mid to low rise pant wearing girl, but since I discovered the feel of my tummy being covered and no love handles with high rise pants, I’m hooked on this style! :p

For the footwear, I kept it simple with my go-to pair of black gum sole Vans, which are so comfortable and give me the best fit for walking around the city!

Of course, I finished the look with my favorite Kate Spade jewelry- this initial pendant gold necklace. The look was casual yet fitting for this play, and I saw several people wearing animal print or African inspired clothing for the event! Truly a spectacular evening!

Have you seen the Lion King musical? What did you think of it? Comment below- I’d love to know your opinion! Bye for now xoxo
